Language Immersion

French with Madame Jolicoeur is a lively and immersive 30-minute experience weekly, filled with art, music, movement, and imagination. Designed especially for young children, each lesson gently introduces the fundamentals of the French language in a way that feels natural, playful, and engaging.

Puppets are a beloved part of her lessons, helping introduce vocabulary through storytelling and playful conversation. Art is woven into lessons to reinforce new vocabulary. Music and movement bring energy and rhythm to the lesson. Each class concludes with a brief review and a familiar goodbye song, helping children leave feeling successful and eager for the next lesson.

Music + Movement

Music & Movement with Mrs. Brown is a joyful 30-minute experience weekly. Through song, rhythm, creative movement, and hands-on exploration of instruments, children build confidence, coordination, and a lifelong love of music. Through call-and-response melodies and simple echo songs, students strengthen listening skills while developing pitch awareness and vocal confidence.

Movement is woven throughout the class. Children may tiptoe like quiet mice, stomp like giant elephants, sway like trees in the wind, or march to a steady beat. These playful activities help develop balance, coordination, spatial awareness, and rhythm — all while having fun. Scarves, and rhythm sticks often accompany songs to encourage expressive, full-body participation. These small group classes with Mrs. Brown are available to any student for an additional charge.

For families seeking a more individualized musical experience, private Suzuki piano lessons with Mrs. Brown are available for an additional charge. A home keyboard or piano is necessary for additional practice.

Children who participate in the music program perform a concert for their families each Spring.

Outdoor Education

Our Outdoor Education program invites students to step beyond the classroom walls and into the wonder of the natural world. In this joyful and hands-on experience, children explore, observe, garden, create, and “work” outdoors — building knowledge, confidence, and a deep respect for nature.

Gardening is a central part of our outdoor classroom. Students prepare soil, plant seeds, water seedlings, and care for growing plants. Through tending vegetables, herbs, and flowers, children develop responsibility and pride in meaningful work.

Nature walks encourage curiosity and discovery. Children learn to identify common trees by their leaves and bark, observe seasonal changes, and gently examine insects and other small creatures. Bug and tree identification becomes an exciting treasure hunt, as students compare shapes, colors, and patterns.

Outdoor time also includes moments of simple joy — eating lunch together in the fresh air, raking leaves or shoveling snow. These experiences foster community and connection while allowing children to feel capable and independent in a natural setting.

Art and creativity are woven into the landscape. Students may rub leaves, create nature-inspired collages or paint outdoors using the colors they observe around them. The environment becomes both the source of inspiration and the setting for learning.
